Hey Friends!
Are we insane?! Yes. Yes I think we are. It feels like we just wrapped up our Great Big Planner Giveaway (see our massive results here!) and we're already at it again.
Well, we love giveaways for a few reasons:
- They're super fun.
- It feels great to surprise someone with a boatload of stuff they'll like.
- They grow our audience…so we end up becoming friends with even more brilliant women.
I think it's a win all around.
So what's this Brilliant Business Giveaway all about?!
Note: We've used affiliate links in this article. For more info, see our disclosures here.

Quick tip on the giveaway: For some reason, the pin it button has an error this time. In order to pin the giveaway image with your unique referral link, just enter the giveaway, grab your custom link, then head back to this page and pin this image. Once it's pinned, you can edit the URL to use your custom referral link. Hope this helps!
Promoted pins have accounted for 20% of our planner sales this year. And once I went through the painful process of figuring them out, I was able to set my pins on autopilot and watch them continue to bring in sales day after day. No one is really teaching on this topic or seems to know how to use promoted pins effectively, but I do! And I'm so excited to teach you how to do it too. Whether you're a blogger or have a product-based business, I can show you how to use promoted pins to grow your business (we use them for both our shop and our blog!)
Also, with our giveaway, you'll earn 10 extra entries for every person you refer through your special referral link. Just click to enter right here, then grab your special link and get sharing. You could literally 100X your chance of winning if you get 10 friends to enter…pretty cool!
We don't want to leave you hanging when it comes to growing your business, so below are some of our favorite business books that should make your must-read list this year.
Will it Fly by Pat Flynn. I feel so lucky that I've gotten to be on the launch team for Pat's brand new book (it launches February 1st) and it is an absolute must-read for new business owners this year. The book has so many unique exercises to help you narrow in on and then validate your ideas. Be sure to check out the pre-order bonuses Pat has available too.
Breakthrough by Adeline Ganley. Addie Ganley has successfully grown her blog to over 600,000 pageviews a month, and she's done that as a stay-at-home mom. I just love Addi's story: she was a hobby blogger for quite some time, but as soon as she decided to buckle down and get serious, she was able to 10X her traffic in just 3 months. The growth continued from there. Addi now makes a full-time living from her blog. And we're so thrilled to be doing a free training with Addi on how to Double your List + Double your Traffic!
The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau. When women ask us how to decide what to do next among their hundreds of ideas, we always point them to the decision matrix in the $100 start-up. Chris' approach to business is brilliant, and his book is a much-needed guide for budding entrepreneurs. (See our own version of the decision matrix right here.)
Virtual Freedom by Chris Ducker. It took us about a year into podcasting (while also managing our online shop and products!) to realize that outsourcing was simply a must in our business. As wives and mothers, we simply have other priorities outside of work, and we're not willing to let the business take over. 6 months ago, we started outsourcing on a more regular basis for our business, and it has been life-changing! Virtual Freedom has an invaluable exercise on how to determine which tasks to outsource, as well as loads of tips on finding and managing the right people.
Money Making Mom by Crystal Paine. Crystal is so down-to-earth despite how successful she is online. I love the honest stories she shares in her book about her own set-backs in business. Crystal also shares inspiring stories of many other women who've grown businesses without losing sight of their top priorities. An added bonus? Crystal's focus on giving generously.
How to Blog for Profit without Selling your Soul. Ruth Soukup is another inspiring mom blogger. Her book is very practical and walks you through all the steps you need to take to grow your blog. While it's more of an overview, Ruth's Pinterest examples and her case studies of how bloggers are making an income online, is exceptionally helpful.
Pro Blogger by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett. This book is often called the bible of blogging. It's quite comprehensive. Now in its third edition, the advice still applies to bloggers today. Ruth Soukup cites this book as the main resource she used to grow her blog and keep going when she didn't think she could.
Growth Hacker Marketing by Ryan Holiday. If you're a scrappy entrepreneur on a budget, you've got to read this book. Ryan examines all the ways you can market your brand without spending a dime. How can you compel your customers to spread your message for you? Growth Hacker Marketing will show yow you.
Contagious by Jonah Berger. Jonah Berger is a genius professor at the Wharton School of Business. His book pulls from psychology and sociology studies to demonstrate why people share content, and how business owners can use human nature to make their products and brand message spread. This book is truly brilliant!
Smartcuts by Shane Snow. An experienced journalist, Shane Snow brings his expert writing style to books, and trust me, it will spoil you! His writing is concise yet compelling – with takeaways for each chapter. I was so inspired by the stories in this book. It makes me re-examine how I do marketing, and inspires me to bring out the scrappy creative who cares nothing for the rules.
Time Management Mama. It feels almost embarassing to list our book right below Shane Snow's! But I have to say, we might just be the only people on the planet who have attempted to make time management fun 🙂 If you're a mom trying to run a business while also spending time with your family, you know how precious the commodity of time is. Sarah and I studied everything we could on time management, put the strategies to the test, then wrote a book with realistic advice for moms – advice that actually works.
