Episode 2: Everything She Learned her First Year of Blogging – an Interview with Abby Lawson

June 10, 2014 by Beth Anne Schwamberger 15 Comments

Fantastic podcast interview about how to grow a blog with Abby Lawson of Just a Girl and Her Blog! She talks blog strategies, how to make money blogging and everything she learned her first year blogging.

How do you bring in more than just pocket change in blog revenue in less than a year?  Abby Lawson shares some of her brilliant strategies to grow and monetize Just A Girl and Her Blog.  Abby talks sponsored posts, ad placement, increasing subscribers, Pinterest marketing, and much more.

Abby is a stay at home mom to two boys and has been blogging since January 2013.  She just released her first ebook, Building A Framework:  Everything I Learned my First Year of Blogging, so don't forget to grab your copy.

Starting a blog doesn't have to be complicated! Love all these practical ideas, and what a fantastic resource.

We have read it and think it is a fantastic resource for new bloggers.  Just a Girl and Her Blog focuses on DIY home décor on a dime, organization, and her personal life.

Listen to her interview to discover:

-How she acquires sponsors for her posts

-How Pinterest helps her to grow her audience without being chained to the computer

-How Facebook can be used in an unconventional way to connect and grow

Success:

“If you just keep growing, learning more, getting better, don’t fall into the comparison trap, set goals and achieve them on my own timeline.”

” I’m not on anyone else’s timeline. I’ve got my own opportunities.”

Tackling the Low Points:

– Low points will come in terms of traffic but your lows never dip down quite as low as they did before – just keep working your buns off and things will bounce back!

Getting Stuff Done:

– As a Mom, Abby steals little bits of time throughout the day and several hours after bedtime.  Her kids still nap (woohoo!  high-fives all around!)

Truths:

“Sometimes my kids sacrifice for blogging!”

“We each have something unique to offer.”

Brilliant Business Advice:

-Grow your list (…and while you're at it, GROW YOUR LIST)

-Pair a big guest post with a related email incentive

Addendum:  Abby also wanted to clarify that she used the wrong terminology and numbers when she was talked about Google Adsense.  She said that Google lets you have 5 ads if you use a combination of text and picture ads, which is incorrect.  They let you have 3 content ads and then 3 link units.  She doesn't want to steer anybody off course!

Thanks for listening!
