About Anna:
We have a busy, loud house of 4 boys (ages 1, 4, 6, and 8) and 2 girls (ages 9 and 2). My husband is a pastor/professor at our local seminary. Before we married, I taught for 8 years and earned an M.Ed. Now I stay home with our kids while running my at-home business.
About Anna’s Business:
I support parents and teachers with hands-on lessons, free printables, and other thoughtful teaching resources at themeasuredmom.com. I also sell teaching resources on my site and on Teachers Pay Teachers.
Why did you decide to become a Mamaprenuer?
I wanted to share my love of teaching with other parents and teachers.
What is the greatest challenge you’ve experienced in your business?
One day I went to my site and was horrified to discover that it wasn't there. The screen said my domain had expired, and in its place was a blank screen and an adult ad. I was horrified and absolutely terrified. I knew that if I'd lost my domain, I'd have to pay tens of thousands to get it back. How could this be? I had made SURE that my domain was set to auto-renew.
To make matters worse, I was alone with our five kids for two weeks while my husband was out of the country.
I made a frantic phone call and learned that my domain service provider couldn't auto-renew my domain because the credit card on file had expired. They said they couldn't do anything about the adult ad that had been parked there… and it sat there all day while I waited for them to fix the issue.
It was one of the worst days of my life.
How did you overcome that challenge?
After a lot of phone calls, I finally made a connection with a very kind service person (who was moved by my tears!). She told me that her husband worked in the tech department, so she'd make sure my site was back up soon. She kept her word, and ten minutes later, I was back online!
What is your greatest win as a business owner?
Making a substantial income while staying home with our kids.
Describe your ‘day in the life’.
Up at 5 AM to work until 6:45 when the kiddos get up. Get the big kids off to school by 8 AM. Spend the morning with my three littles. Squeeze in blog work when my youngest is napping and the other two are playing happily. Do focused blog work from 1-2:45 PM while the youngest two nap and my 4 year old has quiet time and a DVD. After the afternoon and evening family routines, do more blog work when the kids are in bed, from 7:30-9. Then spend an hour with my husband before bed.
What’s your great big dream for your business?
I dream of being a well-known and trusted literacy expert, both online and as an author of traditionally published books.
