About Amy:
I'm a wife and mom. I have two kids, ages 9 and 7, and one puppy. I love spending time with my husband and kiddos. Our favorite thing is day trips to the beach!
About Amy’s Business:
Gabriel's Good Tidings helps women find essentials easier and brighten their purse and keys. We work hard to design beautiful products that create work for women in our local community.
Why did you decide to become a mamaprenuer?
I was desperate to leave my night shift pediatric ER nursing job, but had promised my husband that I would continue to work until he finished graduate school. When he had 18 months left of graduate school, my side hobby business exploded. I begged my husband to let me quit my RN job, and he agreed. I wanted to be home with my children and have flexibility, but be able to match or exceed my nursing salary.
What is the greatest challenge you’ve experienced in your business?
The greatest challenge has been overcoming myself in my mind. I've had to quit believing the lies in my head that I can't run a business because I didn't take a business course in college or have a business degree.
How did you overcome that challenge?
I overcame that challenge by learning from other women just like me who are starting businesses as second careers. Connecting with this type of community has helped me to realize that I'm not in this ocean alone.
What is your greatest win as a business owner?
Selling out on the homepage of Zulily on Black Friday Weekend!
Describe your ‘day in the life’.
My kids go to school at 8 am and I get to work. My home office is on the back side of our house, away from the main part of the home. I grab my coffee and head into the office. I work very hard until 2 pm, when I pack up and go sit in the carline to pick up my kids. The afternoons are filled with gymnastics, baseball, homework, and dinner; there isn't much time for work until the kids go to bed. Once they are in bed, I typically sit on the couch with my laptop, next to my husband, and work on computer work or something that can be done outside of my office.
What’s your great big dream for your business?
My big dream is to provide more income for women in my community. Another big dream is to be in several retail stores across the nation.
