Who are you?
I’m Ellen. I’m a follower of Christ, wife to a fellow geek, and mom to three crazy boys (and a little girl due any day now!). I work full-time as a virtual assistant. I spend my days geeking out over techy things, helping take care of my husband and boys’ health issues, and squeezing in some gaming time when I can.
Describe your family in five words.
Creative geeks, book-lovers, tea-lovers, and adventurers
What do you do for Brilliant Business Moms?
I do tech support and solve problems. I make landing pages, create graphics and develop ad images. I often do webinar setup and video editing, and I help Beth Anne with Facebook ads…plus a bunch of other fun things!
When did you first hear about Brilliant Business Moms?
When I started my craft blog at the beginning of 2015, I went searching for business advice. I remembered Crystal of Money Saving Mom had mentioned being on the BBM podcast, so I decided to start there. I got caught up on all the episodes and I fell in love with the community immediately.
How did you come to be on the team?
Beth Anne and Sarah heard I was looking to start VA work in the BBM private Facebook group, and they asked if I could do a small job for them. It was a pretty easy task copying & pasting emails, and I finished it up quickly. I remember Sarah emailing and saying, “Are you sure you charged us enough for your time?!”
I did another few small projects for them, then at the beginning of 2016, Beth Anne let me know she was going to need more help from me. It's just grown from there!
What do you love about working with Beth Anne?
Beth Anne is one of my favorite people in the world. She tells it like it is, so there’s no guessing what she means. She is incredibly passionate and cares deeply not only about each of us on the team but about everyone in the BBM community. And because I edit the course videos, I get to know her pretty well — and she is constantly cracking me up! I couldn't dream up a better boss.
What's your beverage of choice when you're working for BBM?
Earl Grey tea!
And I’d say “hot”…but it’s usually lukewarm by the time I actually get a chance to drink it.
Name 3 things that put a big smile on your face.
- My husband – He makes ridiculous jokes and puns, and we frequently have fascinating discussions like, “What would your ship name be if you were a space pirate?” He started working from home with me in January due to some health problems, and while we’re still dealing with those, seeing him be more like himself puts a big smile on my face every day.
- My boys – they are such goofballs, and their antics constantly have me cracking up.
- Learning new things and figuring out ways to solve techy problems. I’ve been known to get giddy over figuring out a new trick with Leadpages or getting a code to work right.
